Every RV owner, be it travel trailer, 5th wheel, or motorhome should consider the protection and safety offered by having a Tire Pressure Monitoring System on their rig. It provides continuous monitoring of the tire pressure for all of your tires including your tow vehicle or vehicle being towed, and alerts to any drop or increase in pressure AND temperature, both visually and audibly, giving you time to safely pull off the road. A rapid increase or decrease in tire pressure or temperature could result in a blowout, and blowouts can be disastrous in any vehicle, but especially RVs and semi trucks, where there is significant weight being hauled and the center of gravity is much higher than an ordinary passenger vehicle. Purely for the safety and peace of mind a TPMS provides, it makes this our #2 Top Pick!
I've taken note as we've walked around different campgrounds on our travels and it's amazing how many people don't have a TPMS. It is such an inexpensive investment compared to the potential cost and personal injury it could prevent. It's not a fail-safe, you can still have a tire blowout that was unpredictable and was not caused by heat or under/over-inflation of the tire, but it's far less common.
Another benefit to having a TPMS is ensuring your tire pressure on all 6 (or 8 or 10) tires are at optimal pressure, providing you with the best fuel economy as possible. Under-inflated tires actually cause drag and decrease fuel economy by not rolling down the road as efficiently as they would when properly inflated.
We actually have the InnoTechRV TPMS with 10 sensors to monitor the Jeep we tow as well as our motorhome. It is the exact same unit and sensors as the TireMinder A1A 10-Sensor TPMS, built in the same factory, and simply branded under a different name. We have been extremely pleased with this device, and their customer service was exceptional the one time we needed their assistance. We took our motorhome to an RV dealer to get a couple warranty issues addressed and the dealer proceeded to remove and lose one of our sensors. One phone call to support and we had two extra sensors and a spare booster in the mail to us at NO COST!
If you don't currently have a Tire Pressure Monitoring System we highly recommend you consider one. It could be the difference between an unpleasant day and a catastrophic one!

Excellent article, and we couldn’t agree with you more.
We use a TPMS with 14 sensors on our rig (dually plus the spare; triaxle toyhauler plus the spare) and wouldn’t be without it. On our previous rig we had a blowout on the trailer (also a tri-axle) and could not feel a thing in the cab of the truck. No telling how far we drove before a trucker motioned us to pull over. I decided that day to get a TPMS.
One thing I never noticed or even thought about before we got our TPMS is how much the tire pressure can change when traveling from a cold climate to a warm on, or vice versa. It can be significant…
